Dr. Miguel Cainzos-Achirica, MD, MPH, PhD is a cardiologist and cardiovascular epidemiologist trained in leading academic institutions in Europe and the United States. He currently serves as Associate Director of Preventive Cardiology Research and Education in Houston Methodist, which is ranked among the top 20 hospitals in the United States. He is also an assistant professor of preventive cardiology in Houston Methodist and Weill Cornell, and serves as adjunct faculty in the Department of Medicine in the Johns Hopkins University. His research expertise includes cardiovascular risk assessment, the coronary artery calcium score, minority heath with a focus on South Asian populations, and epidemiological research methods. He has authored more than 120 peer-reviewed publications as of July 2021 and his work has been published in the highest impact journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, BMJ, Circulation, JACC, JAMA Cardiology, and JACC Cardiovascular Imaging, among others.
